I'm currently planning a renovation project. Is it really possible to predict issues at this stage? Seems too good to be true...

Yes! We can help with that. Our expertise with simulation and modeling allow us to predict quite accurately what will happen in a finished building, so it is always a good idea to bring us in during the planning phase. After all, it is much easier and cheaper to prevent a problem, rather than having to fix one.

I think I have a damp problem but I'm not sure - can you come out and take a look?

Yes – that is exactly what we do. We can help to identify the root cause of the moisture problem. Just get in touch and we can arrange a consultation.

Without mechanical ventilation, how do I ventilate correctly?

Just open a window open for 5-10 minutes – that’s it. It sounds too easy, but with this method, you are achieving a full air exchange in the room. It will take just a few minutes to heat the room again as only the heat of the air is lost.

You should definitely avoid leaving a window ajar all day. While it might seem effective for ventilation in winter this will cause an continuous uncontrolled heat loss. Causing high heating cost. Instead open the window for a brief period every hour.

Why is mould in buildings of concern?

Moulds produce allergens (substances that can cause an allergic reaction), irritants and, sometimes, toxic substances. Inhaling or touching mould spores may cause an allergic reaction, such as sneezing, a runny nose, red eyes and skin rash. Moulds can also cause asthma attacks.

If you have mould or damp, the first step is to find out why you have excess moisture in your home. When you know what is causing the damp, you can make sure your home is repaired or take steps to limit the moisture in the air. You may need to get a professional to remove mould for you, but if it’s only a small amount you may be able to remove it yourself. We can advise in all cases, and if it is a job you can fix yourself, we will certainly tell you so.
